United Civic Party demands complaints book in Belarusian 11:03, 18/04/2005
The United Civic Party (UCP) has demanded that authorities issue the party with a blank book of complains in Belarusian.
Aleksandr Lukashenko decreed on January 14 that all state establishments and other organizations must have a book for complaints, proposals and suggestions.
Igor Shinkarik, leader of the UCP chapter in Minsk, asked the tax authority of the Partizansky district of Minsk to provide a standard blank complaints book in Belarusian, a state language in Belarus along with Russian, but officials said that a Belarusian version was not available, reports the UCP press office.
Mr. Shinkarik said that the chapter would wait for authorities to print a Belarusian version.
Tax officials failed to explain to Mr. Shinkarik who and how will check entries in the book, saying that no official instructions have been given to that effect.
