Condoleezza Rice: “Belarusian People Deserve Better Future”
11:21, 20/04/2005

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice states that within Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s presidency it would be impossible to integrate Belarus anywhere. “Belarus has been thrown back, and it is impossible to integrate it anywhere. The people of Belarus deserve better future,” told Rice on Tuesday on her way to Moscow on board of a plane to journalists. The shorthand report of the conversation with journalists has been officially disseminated by the US State Department in Washington.

As said by Rice, “A reformed, democratic, prosperous Belarus will probably benefit Russia more than anyone else because of the potential trade relations and economic relations, not to mention the kinship between the peoples”.

Rice was to head later Wednesday to the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius for NATO ministerial meetings and also to confer with opposition leaders from Belarus, who are to arrive to Vilnius for that. Previously it has been also planned that she would take part in the sessions of the Council Russia-NATO and Ukraine-NATO.
