Georgia supports Belarus against "retrograde forces"
11:37, 21/04/2005

Georgia`s parliament adopted an appeal to the Belarusian people on Wednesday. Georgia hopes that "their bothers - the Belarusian people - will manage to overcome the resistance of interior and exterior retrograde forces and that a beautiful European country will not become isolated," the appeal said.

"In Belarus, hundreds of people have been arrested and are being persecuted for political motives," parliamentary foreign affairs committee chief Konstantin Gabashvili told reporters, commenting on the appeal.

The appeal is "a sign of support, and at the same time a declaration that the nation is not alone in its fight," he said.

"Belarus is a European state, and there is no place for a dictatorship in the European space," Deputy Speaker Mikhail Machavariani said at the parliamentary session.
