NEWS  Lukashenko: Belarusian army is under particular supervision 13:49, 29/04/2005 The Belarusian Armed Forces are under the particular supervision control of the country’s leadership, official information sources quoted Aleksandr Lukashenko as saying at a government conference on April 28. The army plays a key role in ensuring national security, the Belarusian leader explained. Now that pressure is mounting on Belarus, security issues have become top priority, he said. The Thursday conference focused on the condition of weapons and military equipment in the army. Mr. Lukashenko said that the government would soon adopt a plan for the development of the Belarusian Armed Forces in the next five years. “We should specify steps that will start a new period of military development,” he stressed.
