Session of PACE committee on Belarus was carried out in Strasburg :: Charter'97 :: News

Session of PACE committee on Belarus was carried out in Strasburg today. Member of Estonian parliament Andres Herkel was the chair of the session dedicated to situation in Belarus and to Belarusian political prisoners. Leader of civil initiative “Freedom to political prisoners” Pavel Marinich made a speech. He thanked PACE for attention to situation with his father and marked that Marinich case is just one of many facts of suppressing opposition in Belarus.

Andres Herkel said that the committee if following situation in Belarus. And they know that the situation with Human rights in Belarus has worsened. He also said that they were heavily concerned with arrests of participants of peaceful demonstrations including citizens of Russia and Ukraine.

Also new reporter on Belarus was presented to members of committee. His name is Azim Molladze, chairman of democratic reform party of Azerbaijan who offered to create coordinating council of all international structures that are working with Belarus.
