Citizens of Ukraine, detained in Minsk, continue their hunger-strike. The trial started to revise their case on Monday, May 2.

Activist Detained on April 26 Hospitalized

Syarzhuk Lisichonak, an activist of the Young Front, was transferred from the special detention center in the Akrestsyn Street to the infectious diseases hospital, the Charter97 press center was informed by the human rights center Viasna.

I am sure that now Lukashenka is simply taking revenge for the fear he had during the protest on March 25, told Tatiana Leonovich-Klimova, the wife of Andrei Klimov, former MP of the Supreme Soviet of the 13th convocation, commenting to the Charter97 press center the official accusation of Andrei Klimov, who is charged with violation of the Article 342 of the Criminal Code (organizing group actions violating public order, or active participation in them) for organizing an opposition protest rally on March 25 in Minsk.

Accusation was made for the MP of the Supreme Soviet of the 13th convocation, Andre Klimov, on charges relating violation of the article 342 of the Criminal Code (organizing group actions violating public order, or active participation in them) for organizing a protest action of opposition on March 25 in Minsk. The term of detention for Andrei Klimov has been extended until June 22, told Andrei Klimovs assistant Timofey Dranchuk.

Human Rights Activists Visited Yuri Zakharankas Mother

On May 1 members of the human rights organizations visited Yuri Zakharankas mother, Ulyana Zakharanka, who lives in the town of Vasilevichy, Homel region, to congratulate her on the coming Victory day. Volha Zavadskaya, mother of the disappeared ORT cameraman Dzmitry Zavadsky, and Zinaida Hanchar, wife of the disappeared politician Viktar Hanchar, has also visited Mrs. Zakharanka.

The Minsk City Court is to hold a hearing on May 2 to consider complaints by Ukrainian citizens about their jail sentences. Five young Ukrainian men were arrested in Minsk on April 26 during the Belarusian police`s crackdown on an attempt by a few hundred anti-Lukashenko protesters to stage a march to mark the 19th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident.

The National Assembly of Belarus decided to request Prosecutor General Pyotr Miklashevsky to consider the possibility of bringing Russia`s daily Moskovsky Komsomolets to account for its coverage of the Belarusian police`s crackdown on an unauthorized Chernobyl demonstration in Minsk, in which 14 visiting Russian youths were arrested.

Five Ukrainian citizens arrested for participation in the unsanctioned meeting on Saturday, April 30, remain in prison in Minsk, the press service of the Ukrainian FM informed the proUA. Today the consul and ambassador of Ukraine in Minsk are planning to hold another meeting with the detained citizens of Ukraine. Foreign Ministry of Ukraine and Ukrainian Embassy in Belarus continue to with the aim to exert efforts for release of the Ukrainian citizens and their return home, the report of the Foreign Ministry states.
