Ukrainians Detained In Minsk Remain Under Arrest

Five Ukrainian citizens arrested for participation in the unsanctioned meeting on Saturday, April 30, remain in prison in Minsk, the press service of the Ukrainian FM informed the “proUA”. Today the consul and ambassador of Ukraine in Minsk are planning to hold another meeting with the detained citizens of Ukraine. “Foreign Ministry of Ukraine and Ukrainian Embassy in Belarus continue to with the aim to exert efforts for release of the Ukrainian citizens and their return home,” the report of the Foreign Ministry states.

According to the information of the press service, on April 30 a phone talk took place between the deputy Foreign Minsiter of Ukraine Valyantsina Nalivajchenko with the first deputy minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vasily Pugachou.

During the conversation Nalivajchenko again said that the Ukrainian side appeals against the arrest of the Ukrainian citizens, detained by Belarusian law-enforcers on April 26, referring to the Administrative Code of Belarus for mitigation of the punishment, taking in consideration the humanitarian character of the case and their health condition.

On his part, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus assured that the address of the Ukrainian FM, as well as the appeals of the detained Ukrainian citizens were forwarded to Minsk city court for reconsideration.

It is expected that on Monday, May 2, the court is to consider the appeal of Ukrainian Ambassador in Belarus with the request to release Ukrainian citizens, detained on April 26 during the protest rally “Chernobyl path”, told the chairman of Minsk city court Mikhail Ardyako.

All the Russian citizens detained in Minsk for participation in the protest on April 30, were released before term by the ruling of Minsk city court.
