“National Alliance” to Step Up Picketing Of Belarusian Embassy In Kyiv 12:24, 04/05/2005
On Wednesday, May 4, an active mass picketing of the Belarusian Embassy in Kyiv by members of A;;-Ukrainian youth association “National Alliance” is to start.
A rally in support of the Ukrainians detained in Minsk is to take place in front of the Embassy. The activists are going to begin countdown of hours left until the detainees’ release. The countdown is to be accompanied by drums roll and other sounds, which are to be heard by the Embassy every hour from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The picketers are to put up the barbed wire fence around the Embassy. The culmination of the protest is planned every day at 1 p.m.
On May 3 Minsk city court refused to comply with a request of the consul of Ukrainian Embassy in Belarus to release five Ukrainians detained for participation in unsanctioned protest action on April 26. Allegedly, no reasons have been found for complying with their request to release 5 Ukrainians. But on Saturday the court released 14 Russian citizens arrested on the same charges. It is the eight day of hunger strake of Ukrainians who protest against grave violation of their rights by Belarusian authorities.
The All-Ukrainian youth organization “National Alliance” calls upon all principled Ukrainians to come to the Belarusian Embassy and express their protest towards the actions of Belarusian authorities, and to support young activists arrested in Minsk, www.osvita.org.ua informs.
