Valery Levaneuski appeals against punishment for more than a month 14:54, 05/05/2005
The chairman of the National Strike Committee of Vendors of Belarus, member of the Council of Civil Initiatives “Free Belarus” Valery Levaneuski for more than a month has been trying to reverse the ruling on imposing punishments on him. The punishments include placing him into the isolation ward, deprivation of meetings with relatives, additional hours on duty, and so on.
These punishments make it possible for the authorities consider Valery Levaneuski “malicious offender”, and as a rule such people are not included in the amnesty (including the amnesty on the 60th anniversary of Victory) and conditional early relief.
Valery Levaneuski believes that these punishments are a political order, and are aimed at not permitting him to be released earlier. The authorities are not giving him a possibility to appeal against these punishments. His appeal against imposing a punishment has not been considered. Judge stated that this case is outside the capacity of the court, though according to the law the prisoner has a right to appeal against the ruling of an official who imposed a punishment on him.
Numerous complaints of the leader of vendors probably do to arrive to the receiver, as there had not been any answer. lllll
