Youth Organizations of Lviv With Arrested In Belarus 11:20, 05/05/2005
Ukrainian youth organization “National Alliance” and All-Ukrainian public association “PORA!” have staged a protest in solidarity with their compatriots detained in Belarus on April 26 at the meeting in commemoration of the Chernobyl nuclear power station catastrophe. The rally has taken place in the square by the monument of Ivan Franko.
The main aim of the protest, as said by the head of Lviv branch of the All-Ukrainian organization “National Alliance” Yaroslav Dmitrishin, was to express protest against detention of five Ukrainian citizens for participation in the opposition rally “Chernobyl Path” in Minsk, and to inform the community of Lviv about the political problems of Belarus.
The protesters demand Minsk riot policemen to offer apologies for tearing the national flag of Ukraine during the arrests, for detention and beating up the Ukrainians. They also demand to let the Ukrainians return home.
