Georgia Hopes For Rose Revolution Continuation 11:23, 16/05/2005
“Rose revolution” in Georgia, is to have continuation, stated Georgian Parliament Speaker Nino Burdzhanadze on May 13 in her speech at the international conference “Cooperation of Latvian and Georgian parliaments – Latvian experience in integration the EU”. The delegation of Georgian MPs went to Latvia from 12 to14 of May on an official visit. Opening the conference, Mrs. Burdzhanadze stressed that “rose revolution” was not a local event, but influenced the whole post-Soviet territory. The changed have taken place in Ukraine, they are expected in Moldova and Belarus, and as said by her, in Russia has been called for democracy as well.
“Strengthening of democracy and stability in these countries is in the interests of any country- EU member,” believes the Georgian speaker. She views her own country as a full-fledged member of the EU and NATO, and expects that Latvia would share experience in integration to these international structures.
At the meetings with highest officials of the republic, Nino Burdzhanadze was assured that Latvia will share this experience willingly. And Foreign Minister of Latvia, Artis Pabriks, expressed conviction that the visit of the Latvian head of government Aigar Kalvitis to Georgia planned in the end of May, as well as the visit to Tbilisi of Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga in October this year, are to improve even more the friendly relations between the two countries. The Georgian delegation returned home on May 14.
