Border control agency reports normal radiation situation, referring to its independent monitoring 11:19, 27/05/2005
There has been no deterioration in the radiation situation in Belarus, Aleksandr Pavlovsky, chairman of the country`s State Border Troops Committee, told reporters in Minsk on May 26.
According to General Pavlovsky, his agency conducts independent radiation monitoring on a permanent basis with a view to knowing the conditions of border guards` service.
He expressed the opinion that Wednesday`s rumors of increased radiation levels in Belarus might be provoked by the emergency management ministry`s recent exercise, which he said might be interpreted as an operation to handle a real emergency.
"There is no reason to worry," Mr. Pavlovsky said.
