Rumours of the radioactive level changes are not fortuitous?
13:05, 06/06/2005

Minister of emergencies and the population protection against Chernobyl catastrophe consequences David Zhvania considers that the rumours about the radioactive level mutation at the Chernobyl nuclear power station (ChNPS) and the “Shelter” object were spread deliberately. “This is a purposeful campaign. I am absolutely positive, but I am not empowered to insist on that point of view,” - he said. Answering the question who are possible beneficiaries of this situation, Zhvania said he would not like to accuse Belarus of that, but the first information about possible problems at the ChNPS was received from the center for Hydrometeorology of Belarus.

“… about the fact that the warm air is moving from Ukraine and that it’s most likely that some problems or an accident could have occurred in one of the operating blocks in Ukraine or in the sarcophagus,” - he said.

Zhvania added that he has already applied to the General Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Security Service of Ukraine to elaborate the protection system against disinformation. According to the Minister, some group wittingly makes phone calls to the foreign Embassies in Ukraine and informs about problems at the ChNPS, then contacts the public associations and press. At first those people informed about problems at the Chmelnitskaya nuclear power station and then repeated the information about the ChNPS problems. “There was an attempt to create such an information delusion. It means that a group is working on it. Even the voices of those who telephoned to the Embassies is the same,” - he said.
