Menace of murder in reformatory towards Valery Levaneuski 15:45, 10/06/2005
The family of the political prisoner Valery Levaneuski received 5 letters from him at one time. Practically all the letters were perused and “censored” by someone - each of the letters lacked 3-4 pages. But the family managed to get some information about the reformatory life of the entrepreneurs’ leader who went on a hunger strike on June 1. Valery Levaneuski is telling that he was forced to go to the prison hospital after he had hunger-stricken and that he was threatened by some prisoners because of his complaints on the prison administration.
In one of the letters the chairperson of the All-National Strike Committee of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Belarus described how he was forced to go to the medical unit:
“Morning. 06.03.2005. 6.30 am. The third day of the huger strike. Despite all my objections that I was feeling well, that I can be put to the medical unit only with my consent or in cases of emergency, I was confronted with the choice: either the medical unit, or the investigatory isolation ward (for disobedience), or to stop the hunger strike.
Yesterday, 06.02.2005, the public prosecutor came here; he wanted to see me, but they didn’t let me go to the meeting.”
In another letter the entrepreneurs’ leader tells that now he is menaced by murder:
“The local “observer” threatened to kill me (to cut off my head) because I write complaints on the assistant chief of ROW (regime operational work). I applied for institution of prosecution on this case.”
The leader of the All-National Strike Committee of Entrepreneurs, member of the Civil Initiatives Council “Svabodnaya Belarus” Valery Levaneuski has been hunger striking in prison since June 1. The political prisoner demands the dismissal of Uladzimir Kauchur, Head of the Penalty Executions Committee. Valery Levaneuski deems that because of this functionary’s directives his complaints and applications are not considered in accordance with the legal procedure and many of them are not considered at all.
For more than two months the entrepreneurs’ leader has been trying to appeal against the penalty imposed which discludes him from the amnesty 2005. lllll
