The Ministry of Taxation and Dues sent to district tax inspection a circular letter informing about an oncoming control of all independent editions of the country. The Ministry demands “all links with pseudo-structures” being exposed. The Ministry’s decree explains the necessity of the complex control by “facts of violating the legislature” by this organizations elicited by the Ministry of Information and law-enforcement agencies, “Nasha Niva” reports.
The decree demands to control such editions as “BelKP-Press” (Komsomolskaya Pravda), UP (Unitary Enterprise) “Nestsiarovich”, newspapers Zgoda, Belorusskaya Gazeta and other, even those that have not been published for a long time. The information company BelaPAN was also short-listed. The option of the control is to verify the receipt of the income and reveal “links with pseudo-structures”.
It is surprising how anonymous “law-enforcement agencies” managed to expose violations in all independent editions simultaneously. Nobody in the Ministry of Information could explain to us what “facts of violating the legislature” were elicited in all editions at one time. As we were told, the Ministry is not empowered at all to control the administrative activity of editions.
The document orders to expose advertisers of the newspapers and conduct counter-controls of their businesses. Perhaps, this determines the chief purpose of the shakedown - to hint the advertisers who still work with the independent press at the undesirability of their further cooperation. Such controls are also a way of psychological and financial pressure on editors and employees of the Mass Media.
