During ministerial political consultations Belarus and Syria confirm their readiness to develop cooperation in all spheres 11:22, 22/06/2005
The second round of the ministerial political consultations between Belarus and the Syrian Arab Republic was held in Damascus. During the talks the Belarusian delegation was headed by deputy foreign minister Viktor Gaisenok; the Syrian one – by deputy head of the foreign political department Ahmad Arnus.
As BelTA has been informed in the press service of the foreign ministry of Belarus, the sides discussed a wide range of issues of the Belarusian-Syrian cooperation at the bilateral and multilateral levels. Special attention was paid to development of the legal-treaty base. The sides shared their views concerning the regional problems of the Middle East and reformation of the UN bodies, took note of the positive record of the cooperation between Belarus and Syria in international organizations and reached agreement to continue strengthening their interaction in this field.
Within the framework of his visit to Syria Viktor Gaisenok also met with minister of economy and trade of Syria Amer Lufti. The sides consider it is necessary to intensify the interaction between the private and state sectors of their economies. The matter also concerned the upcoming third sitting of the joint Belarusian-Syrian commission on trade-economic and technical cooperation. The possibilities of the exchange of record in economic reforms were discussed.
The head of the Belarusian delegation met with the chairman of the National Assembly of Syria Mahmoud al-Abrash to discuss the issues on expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation. The sides reached an agreement on a visit of Belarusian parliamentary delegation to Syria in 2005.
The deputy foreign minister of Belarus met also with the president of the federation of chambers of commerce of Syria. The sides outlined the areas where the business circles of the two countries could intensify the contacts. In particular, an exhibition of Syrian goods will be organized in Belarus. The issues on expanding the Belarusian exports to Syrian were discussed in the course of a meeting between the deputy foreign minister of Belarus and the leadership of Sakkal and Sons company (MAZ official dealer in Syria) Shukri Sakkal.
