Chairperson of the supervisory body of the bank “Golden Taler” plc Aliaxandar Nielin was detained in Minsk, June 17. He is accused of grand larceny.

On that very day Nielin’s office in Joint Belarusian-British bank “Golden Taler” was searched.
In 2001, the Department of Financial Interrogations of the State Control Committee initiated a suit against chairperson of the board of the bank Aliaxandar Zhylinski, but later the case was dismissed.
That year agents of the Combat of Organized Crime and Corruption Committee of the Ministry of Interior of Belarus detained first assistant chairperson of the board of the bank Zmitsier Mikhalevich right in his office. He was suspected of receiving a big sum of money for illegal allotment of finacial documents to a foreigner.

According to “Narodnaya Volia”, Nielin, the owner of the control stocks of several Belarusian enterprises, the person whose fortune makes up to millions of dollars, was detained for another reason. He is suspected of larceny of the shares of the “StrahPolis” company.

“StrahPolis” was established in 1997 at the expense of two major Belarusian enterprises - the Minsk “Belgazavtoservis” and Stalbtsy “Agromashzapchast’”. The latter used to be a thriving company of the all-Soviet Union scale. The management of the “Agromashzapchast’” has been changed recently and unprofitableness of the enterprise became evident. The investigation revealed the fact of illegal acquisition of the “Strakhpolis” shares by the head of this company, Minsk businessman Aliaxandar Nielin. The “Agromashzapchast’” management decided to apply to the militia. Nielin was detained. He is charged with article 210 part 3 -especially grand larceny. In case the businessman is found guilty, he may be sentenced to 3-10 year confinement. But it seems to be long before the court trial takes place. The investigation is now being carried out.

By the way, there was a suit initiated against Aliaxandar Nielin on the article “arbitrariness” in 1999. But then the court did not consider the suit - the case was dismissed. Time will show what will happen now.
