Council of Europe’s Secretary General Called Belarus “Sad Exception” 14:47, 23/06/2005
Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Tarry Davis, called Belarus a “sad exception” among the European countries. “We are going to conduct dialogue with our neighbours. And these neighbours are situated not only in Europe, with a little sad exception of Belarus…,” he said, making a statement at the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Thursday.
Mr.Davis called the Europeans to unite in the name of unity with account of diversity of all”.
The day before the Parliamentary Assembly made a statement in favour of position of the PACE regarding Belarus.
While discussing the resolution concerning Russia’s non-observing of its obligations as PACE member, the recommendation to “provide any political or financial support to Belarusian government depending on respect to human rights and freedoms of Belarusian nation” was added to the final draft of the document.
