Prosecutor’s Office prolonged investigation term of murder of journalist Veranika Charkasava 15:59, 23/06/2005
The Public Prosecutor’s Office prolonged the investigation term of the murder of the oppositional newspaper “Salidarnasts” journalist Veranika Charkasava till August 21, 2005, as Vice Attorney General of Belarus Viktar Prus has said today at a press conference. “An active operational investigative wok is being carried out. About 10 working versions are being examined. Unfortunately, a positive result has not been reached so far,” - he remarked.
We shall remind that the body of Veranika Charkasava with numerous knife-wounds was found in her apartment in Niakrasava Street in Minsk, October 20, 2004. The investigative actions on this case have also concerned the journalist’s son.
As Viktar Prus reported, “there have been no beaches of the legitimacy on this case, regarding the son of Charkasava as well. He was questioned in order to elucidate some circumstances which he as the person who had been near the house of his mother could not explain.” The son of Veranika Charkasava “was hardly regarded” as the alleged criminal, remarked the Attorney General, “but there were forcible arguments which let us think he knew something about this crime.”
