Foreign ministry: Council of Europe’s position not to cooperation with Belarus has not prospects
11:39, 24/06/2005

The position of the Council of Europe not to cooperate with Belarus has no prospects, deputy chief of the information department of the foreign ministry Ruslan Esin stated when answering a question of a BelTA correspondent.

The official of the foreign political department noted: “We are studying the results of the sitting on June 22 in Strasbourg of the subcommittee on Belarus of the PACE commission for political issues. I would like to say that the provisions of the memorandum on Belarus presented by the subcommittee’s rapporteur A. Mollazade, the statements of those who spoke at the sitting contain no constructive suggestions but simply reiterate the earlier accusations against this republic. It is likely that many members of the subcommittee are guided by personal political ambitions rather than true intentions to establish cooperation with Belarus”.

Ungrounded assessments and persistent statements on the Council of Europe’s urge to head the process of changing the power in Belarus are driven by considerations of momentary advantage and show the PACE has neither objective vision of the situation nor real instruments of influencing it, Ruslan Esin underscored. Unfortunately at present the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe /PACE/ is reaping the fruits of its counter-productive policy that has practically excluded the PACE from the political dialogue with Belarus.
