Is Minsk to Impose Visa Regime With Georgia Still? 11:30, 28/06/2005
Belarus is going to withdrew from the treaty on non-visa movement of CIS citizens on the territory of member states, which was signed on October 9, 1992 in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), told deputy Foreign minister of Belarus Alyaksandr Herasimenka on June 27 at the session of a Permanent Commission on international affairs and relations with the CIS of the so-called “chamber of representatives” of “national assembly” of Belarus.
At present only a few countries of the CIS have remained participants of the treaty, including Georgia and Azerbaijan. Belarus has bilateral agreements with all other countries of the CIS on non-visa movement of citizens. Now the Belarusian side has sent a proposal to the authorities of Azerbaijan to conclude a bilateral agreement on trips of citizens without visa requirements. After settling this question, A.Herasimenka said, Belarus “would have a full right withdrew from Bishkek treaty”. Thus, Georgia would remain the only state Belarus would have no agreement on non-visa movement.
As said by Herasimenka, the possible enforcement of visa requirements for Georgian citizens does not have political undertone. “There is no politics in it,” underlined deputy head of the Foreign Affairs Ministry. He also observed that many criminal elements use Belarus as a channel for entering the territory of the Russian Federation without having appropriate visas.
