Notice to «Narodnaya Volia» still in force 13:24, 28/06/2005
The Supreme Administrative Court rejected the action of the publishing house of “Narodnaya Volia” against the Ministry of Information, thus preserving the notice to the newspaper. The publishing house has the right to appeal against this decision in the Presidium of the Supreme Administrative Court, and “Narodnaya Volia” will use this right, editor-in-chief of the edition Iosif Siaredzich said to the PO Belarusian Association of Journalists.
The warning passed to the newspaper by the Ministry of Information April 13, concerned two articles. The first article “Virtual war of granddaughter against grandmother” was printed March 3. The Ministry of Information considered that the author of the publication (A. Sivy) had published the court material of the proceedings that had not yet been completed without the judge’s permit. Judge Katisaryna Karatkievich did not consider the plaintiffs’ arguments that the ONT TV-channel had made coverage from the court right after the decision on S. Gaidukievich’s claim against “Narodnaya Volia” was made but had not come to force yet, but the Ministry of Information did not regard it as a violation.
March 31, the newspaper published “Appeal to soldiers-internationalists” which was signed among the others by human rights activist Aleg Volchak. He was mentioned as the leader of the “Defenders of Homeland” movement, and the Ministry of Information regarded the publication as the distribution of information on behalf of a non-registered association.
