Again “Stalin” at Suvorov Military School’s front :: Charter'97 :: News

Originally, the front of the Suvorov Military School was decorated with the depictions of books and inscriptions “Marx”, “Engels”, “Lenin”, “Stalin”. After the cult of personality denunciation the name of Stalin was erased. The decision to restore the original d?cor of the building was made together with the decision of the entire restoration. Now the word “Stalin” is repeated at the front of the Suvorov Military School more than 10 times - in number of the decorative books. The reconstruction of the Suvorov Military School is held by the Minsk Municipal Executive Committee.

According to historian Zakhar Shybeka, the building of the contemporary Suvorov Military School was constructed in the first half of XX century. Since 1840 a theological seminary was situated the building. Starting from the Bolsheviks advent and to the present moment the building was occupied by various communist military schools. The building obtained its present looks in the early 1950s. How reasonable is it to restore the name of Stalin from the point of view of historical renovation?

“Following these logics, the German people may start restoring the symbolism of the Hitler period of 1933-1945. I would rather suggest restoring the theological seminary complex of the XX century,” - Uladzimir Papruga, the former Minsk Municipal Executive Committee State inspector on preservation of the historical-cultural heritage, commented on the situation. Uladzimir Papruga has lost his job recently because his contact was not prolonged.

Now there is a monument of Stalin in Belarus - in the settlement of Svislach (Grodna Region). And also in Slutsk, where employees of one building administration dug out a bust of Stalin and established in the yard of their enterprise. And June 30, nearby Zaslaul a historical-cultural complex will be inaugurated for tourists.
