Police detained a human rights activist 17:16, 30/06/2005
Human rights activist of the “Viasna” center from Mozyr Uladzimir Tselepun was detained by police in the town of Kalinkavichy. The activist was detained soon after deputy chairman of the regional branch of the United Civil Party Uladzimir Katsora delivered him a repaired private computer.
Policemen explained the detention by the fact that that computer had been stolen in some unknown organization. However police investigator Surma and police expert Valayk, after detaining the human rights activist, were not trying to identify the computer, but were looking through the contents of his private files.
On the same evening in Kalinkavichy five police officers, headed by major Taran, burst into the private apartment in Knyazeu Street, 9. The assembly for nomination of delegates for Democratic forces congress was held there. Policemen tried to stop the meeting, Radio Svaboda informs.
