The next sitting of the Permanent Democratic Assembly (PDA) that unites the leading democratic organizations of Belarus took place June 30, in Minsk, chaired by leader of the Belarusian Social-Democratic Party (Narodnaya Gramada) Mikola Statkievich.
The selection of delegates to the Congress of Democratic Forces that should elect a single candidate to President from the opposition was discussed at the sitting. It was emphasized that the sittings had taken place in 19 out of 143 district of the country with more than 700 opposition activists participating. The participants of the sitting adopted a resolution on regulation of the organization procedure of regional meetings in Magilou Region where the representatives of A. Kazulin’s party had taken part in the violation of this procedure.
Also the text of the PDA statement regarding the actions of assistant leaders of Kazulin’s party V. Nistiuk and A. Laukovich was adopted. It is said in the statement: “The PDA considers unacceptable the usage of the repression apparatus of the present political regime for solving the interior party conflicts and expresses full support and confidence to the BSDP (NG) leadership in the person of M. Statkievich in his every day activity.”
