Lets face the future together

This was the motto of Belgrade conference of youth organization of European Popular Party. The event took place on June 23-26 and gathered the representatives of 36 organizations from 29 countries. Agenda concerned the processes of development and strengthening of cooperation between Balkan countries, cooperation with the EU, transition period in Balkan countries. Forum adopted several resolutions, including the Resolution On Belarusian Crisis.

Resolution on Belarus, presented by the representative of “Young democrats” Vladimir Chervonenko, included the following points:

1. To condemn the systematic and increasing oppression and frightening of political parties in Belarus, members of public associations and party activists.

2. To urge Belarusian authorities to free political prisoners and start criminal actions against corrupted judges.

3. To call upon the independent investigation of disappearance cases of ex-minister of internal Jurij Zakharenko, ex vice-speaker of Parliament Viktor Gonchar, entrepreneur Anatolij Krasovskij, ORT cameraman Dmitri Zavadski.

4. To recognize Lukashenko’s participation in 2006 elections unconstitutional.

5. To urge Belarusian authorities to stop persecuting youth and student organizations.

6. To support strengthening of civil society in Belarus and encourage unions of youth organizations before presidential elections.

7. To recommend to the European Commission, Council of Europe, to the governments of countries-members of these organizations to come up with a specific plan of activities for the support of all democratic forces in Belarus, and to support more efficiently Belarusian citizens involved into making democratic changes in Belarus.

8. To call international youth organizations to support youth movement in Belarus in activities for mobilization of people in their fight for democratic European Belarus.

9. To urge all democratic European institutions to assess the situation in Belarus as a potential threat to the common European movement.
