More “Personality Cult” Expected :: Charter'97 :: News

According to information of the “BDG”, deputy chairman of the Belarusian TV and Radio Company Yury Azaronak (Yuri Azarionok), appointed to this position by the president recently, is going to create a new department on Belarusian TV. As the newspaper have supposed, the appointment of the notorious journalist, famous for creation of scandalous films about Belarusian opposition, would mean increase of political propaganda and “personality cult” in the programs of the First national Channel.

It appears that Yury Azaronak has understood his appointment in a right way. And the forecast is coming true. As the “BDG” has found out, “president’s journalist” initiates creation of a separate agency of social and political programs, headed y him.

At present majority of political programs on TV are made by TV news Agency, supervised by deputy chairman of the BT Alyaksandr Martynenka, and called a state within the state by Belarusian TV staff. It is possible that when Azaronak would be allowed to realize his intention, a certain competition is to arise: whose praise to Lukashenka would be more interesting, and the sneer at his enemies more convincing.
