The dectity of independent Belarus in 2006 is to be determined according to the Ukrainian variant, in the streets. "Only in this way we can defend our victory," told the chairman of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka, addressing the meeting of democratic forces of Partyzanski district of Minsk on July 12.

Solidarity with journalists persecuted in Belarus

Today a campaign of solidarity and support to journalists of the newspaper "Glos znad Niemna", sentenced to colossal fines for participation in the protest rally against nacionalisation of the newspaper by Belarusian authorities has started in Poland. The initiators of this action are journalists of the third cahnnel of the Polish TV from Lodz. They addressed their colleagues all over Poland to support the persecuted journalists in Belarus financially and by information.

Suspect in Assassination of one of UPB leaders detained

According to information of Minsk regional prosecutor`s office, a suspect in assassination of the chairman of Rakau branch of the public association the "Union of Poles in Belarus" Jusefa Varaksa was detained. As the BelaPAN was informed by the UPB press secretary Andrzej Pisalnik, it was said in the letter of Minsk regional prosecutor`s office, sent to Hrodna headquarters of the UPB on July 11 as an answer to the address of the UPB leadership.

Action to Zavadski’s memory in Vileyka

Action dedicated to the 5th anniversary of Dmitry Zavadski’s disappearance was carried out by Zubr activists in Vileyka. Graffiti “Where is Zavadsky?” and “5 years have gone! Where is Zavadsky?” appeared all over the town.

Syarhei Skrabets` Parents Hope to See Son Today

On July 13 mother and father of the former deputy, leader of the group "Respublika" Syarhei Skrabets went from Minsk to Brest. The investigator for particularly important cases of the Prosecutor`s office of Belarus Vyachaslau Tserakhovich has given a sanction for a meeting with their son in Brest remand prison.

BPF Leader`s Son Charged

Accusation to the son of the head of the Belarusian city council of the BelarusianPopular Front Party Uladzimir Kishkurna, Anton, was presesnted today. Police investigators of the Tsentralny district of Minsk are charging him with illicit traffic of drugs and keeping of ammunition. A printing press found in the house during the search has been taken in unknown direction.

Military procuracy dismissed an action of Union of Poles

The Union of Poles in Belarus has recieved an official answer from the military prosecutor`s office regarding the article in the newspaper "Vo slavu Rodiny". The article was called "Game with marked cards". The Union of Poles has found that this article offends and injures national dignity of Poles, and is aimed at inciting national enmity.

In the latest development, a policeman reportedly struck in the face the wife of a missing journalist during a peaceful street demonstration. A meeting for nomination of candidates to the Congress of Democratic Forces held in Brest region turned out to be a thrilling event resembling an action movie. In Domachevo town all militia people and border guard were on alert. They have prepared for the visit of oppositionists in advance. Block-posts were located in three places around the city. One day before the meeting, military structures had special operative consultation. Operation for detaining of opposition leaders was headed by the Chair of Criminal Police of Brest region Jyrij Grinko, major Vladimir Khvatik and commander Alexander Gerasimchuk.

There is a sphere in life where growth indicators cannot please. It`s crime. Unfortunately, it is growing, and its qualitative and quantative growth is unusually stable. For example, as compared with the last year (January-May to January-May), probability of being robbed in a public place has doubled. And crime detection of all crimes has dropped from 65.9% to 58.2%. It means that activity and skill of pickpockets has grown, while qualification and dilligence of polcemen have decreased, the "Belorusskiy Rynok" writes.

Belarus may lose $120mln if certain EU preferences canceled - Foreign Ministry

Exports of Belarus’ electric energy for first half-year grows by 9,3 per cent

According to the preliminary data, in January-June 2005 the exports of the Belarusian electric energy to Poland grew by 9,3 per cent comparing with 2004 analogous period and made 460 million kilowatt/hour, a BelTA correspondent was told by counselor of the director general of the concern Belenergo Vladimir Korduba.
