Alyaksei Marachkin Elected Head of “Batskaushchyna” :: Charter'97 :: News

At the 4th congress of the Belarusians of the world that was held in Minsk on July 16-17, the program of cooperation of Belarusian organizations and the proposals to the authorities have been worked out. The congress passed a resolution of confirmation of the Independence Support Act, adopted by the All-Belarusian Congress in 2000, and the appeal “Belarus for diaspora, diaspora for Belarus”, in which all Belarusian organizations are called upon cooperation. Besides, the Council consisting of 110 persons from different countries of the world has been elected. A well-known Belarusian artist Alyaksei Marachkin has taken charge of the union of the Belarusians of the world “Batskaushchyna” (Fatherland). The Charter’97 press center congratulates A.Marachkin and wishes him success in his honourable work.

In his first interview as the chairman of the union of Belarusians of the world “Batskaushchyna” the well-known Belarusian artist Alyaksei Marachkin told to Radio Svaboda that as before, this influential international organization in its work is to be guided by the principle of equality of all Belarusian structures for achievement of real independence of Fatherland.

The head of the “Batskaushchyna” Alyaksai Marachkin explained his main aim in the following way:

“[The aim is] to go along the path of uniting all our compatriots, who live abroad, to feel their problems, and to tell them about our problems. Only through contacts, only through pluralism of opinions, only in this way we could come to some results and solve some problems”.
