Putin Promises to Discuss Human Rights Problem With Lukashenka
16:08, 20/07/2005

Vladimir Putin promises to discuss with Alyaksandr Lukashenka the problems of civil society in Belarus, the problems of Russian TV channels and radio stations broadcasting on the territory of Belarus. Answering the statement of Russian political analyst Sergei Karaganov, who had said that now people are imprisoned “for little ears of corn” in Belarus, and that broadcasting of radio stations “Mayak” and “Radio Rossii” stopped on the territory of Belarus, Vladimir Putin noted that Lukashenka would be in Russia on a state visit, and that he would have a possibility to talk about all these topics with Alyaksandr Lukashenka. “We shall discuss it,” Putin said.

Answering the words of Karaganov that the Foreign Ministry of Russia is not conducting work with Russian citizens placed in prison abroad, Putin said that “if there are Russian citizens in foreign prisons, the Foreign Ministry should organize its work accordingly”.
