Ethiopian watchdogs are worried with future of 8 military pilots who asked political asylum in Belarus. Last week two pilots who asked for asylum in Djibouti were sent back to Ethiopia. Democratic organization of refugees from Ethiopia in USA addressed to United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees with appeal to protect pilots who had asked asylum in Belarus.
«Burdened with this sorrow, we are obligated to write this letter in order to avoid a similar fate to the eight Ethiopian pilots who had the courage to seek asylum in Belarus rather than serve a repressive regime. We beseech you to act with urgency to redress the dire situation of the two pilots who returned to Ethiopia from Djibouti and also take the necessary measures so that the eight pilots in Belarus obtain the protection to which they are entitled,» --say Ethiopian watchdogs.
Ethiopians who live in the USA are planning to hold demonstration near Belarus embassy in Washington D.C. on July 25.
According to information of Belarusian Human right defenders Ethiopian embassy in Moscow cooperates with Belarusian authorities with purpose to attain extradition of refugees to Ethiopian regime.
