EU threatens to deprive Belarus of tariff allowances 17:22, 19/08/2005
The European Commission recommended putting on halt the tariff allowances for import of different goods, including textiles, wood and oil products from Belarus to the EU countries, the executive body of the EU sees violations of labour norms in Belarus, which government still has half a year for fulfillment of 12 recommendations issued by the International Trade Organization. In particular, Minsk is accused of interference of the government into trade unions’ activities, Interfax informs.
This step could also concern tariff allowances for 280 mln Euro. The decision to suspend application of preferential tariffs is made at the level of member states.
