In Belarus BHC Sues Presidential Affairs Administration 17:27, 08/09/2005
Human rights activists went to the Supreme Economic Court and filed a charge against the Department of Humanitarian Activity of the Presidential Affairs Administration, as they had refused to register money assistance which had been transmitted to the account of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee by the International Helsinki Federation.
The BHC planned to use these funds for rent of the premises, to pay for telephone talks and to leave money for the next conference of the organization. However, it had been denied to them to register monetary assistance.
“The most outrageous thing is that they have not even stated the reasons for the denial. The ruling of the court must show, was it just a whim of bureaucrats, or the command to stifle our organization,” executive director of the BHC Aleh Hulak said to Radio Svaboda.
Meanwhile the Presidential Affairs’ Administration refuses to comment on the BHC’s complaints.
