Belarusian Delegation in New York: Two Bodyguards, No Interpreters
13:35, 08/09/2005

For the last three days in New York the Second World Conference of parliaments’ speakers is held. The first conference took place in 2000 on the occasion of the UN Millennium Assembly. This year leaders of the parliaments of all countries were invited to the conference, including the speaker of Belarus. The aim of the conference is to acquaint the UN with the role of the parliaments of all countries in the system of multi-lateral relations, and their contribution to the cause of security, democracy, human rights.

As Radio Svaboda infirmed, the Belarusian delegation is represented by three official personalities: the chairman of the Council of Republic Henadz Navitski, the speaker of the “chamber of representatives” Uladzimir Kanaplyou, the chairman of the Secretariat of the Council of Republic Hleb Byadzrtski. Advisor Syarhei Kudrejka is also the member of the delegation. Henadz Navitski is accompanied by his wife in his trip to New York.

It is worth mentioning that the Belarusian delegation, though it is one of the smallest ones at the conference, has taken two officers of security: Yury Chakhouski and Uladzimir Drachou. It is also worth mentioning that there are no interpreters in the delegation. Such conferences are usually used by its participants for bilateral or multilateral meetings with delegates of different countries, that is why most of the delegations have interpreters.
