Supporters of Anzelika Borys to contest legitimacy of repeat convention of Union of Poles 15:37, 12/09/2005
Supporters of Anzelika Borys (Anzhelika Boris) will contest the legitimacy of the repeat 6th convention of the Union of Belarusian Poles (UBP) that was held in Volkovysk, Grodno region, on August 27.
A decision to this effect was made at a meeting that took place in the Polish border town of Kuznica Bialostocka on September 10, Andrzej Pisalnik, informal spokesman for Ms. Borys` group, told BelaPAN.
According to Mr. Pisalnik, participating in the meeting were members of the UBP Main Council elected at the organization`s March convention, which was declared illegitimate by Belarus` justice ministry. The 31-year-old Borys was elected leader of the Union at that convention.
The government-backed repeat convention in Volkovysk resulted in the election of Jozef Lucznik, 69, as UBP leader.
"We are gathering evidence of the convention`s illegitimacy. The documents will be submitted to a court and, possibly, the justice ministry," Mr. Pisalnik said, adding that a complaint would also be sent to the UN Commission on Human Rights.
