As assumed by the Central Committee of the Republic of Belarus on electrons and referenda (CEC), the presidential elections in 2006 would cost the budget 35,238 bn Br, or 16,389 million USD. The BelaPAN was informed about that by the CEC secretary Mikalay Lazavik. As said by him, it is supposed that there would be 10 candidates at the ongoing elections.
Christian of the Full Gospel Union church New Life are going to assemble at the building of the Minsk City Executive Council on Thursday, September 15 at 4 pm local time. The head of the ideologu department of Minsk executive committee recommended the house of culture of the Minsk automobile plant (MAZ) for the congress.

The Lithuanian parliament has supported the idea of holding an international seminar in Vilnius on September 22-24 to assess the situation in Belarus. An initiative to hold such a forum was introduced at the April session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly`s Permanent Committee in Reykjavik, the parliamentary press service told Interfax on Tuesday.
The European Parliament`s Foreign Affairs Committee will debate three external issues: Turkey, Iran and Belarus in its sitting in Brussels Tuesday. The Committee will talk to Annalisa Giannella, the personal representative of EU foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The MEPs will hear from European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn on the latest developments in diplomatic efforts to finalize a negotiating mandate for Turkish EU entry. Minsk is strongly opposed to European broadcasts being transmitted to Belarus and regards it as an attempt by certain international structures and politicians to exert pressure on Belarus ahead of major political events, the Belarussian Foreign Ministry`s official spokesman Ruslan Yesin announced Monday.
The European Commission has begun preparations for a 2 million Euro project to increase access in Belarus to independent sources of news and information. This follows the 138.000 Euro contract already granted to Deutsche Welle Radio which will begin broadcasting via radio and Internet on November 1. Interested broadcasters have until 11th October to signal their interest in a new contract for “production and broadcasting on television and radio in Belarusian and Russian over a period of two years starting on 1st January 2006. The aim is to provide access to independent information about events in Belarus and in the outside world, and to enhance the knowledge of the Belarusian population about democracy, pluralism, rule of law, freedom of the press and human rights.
Mr. Adryianau, director general of the metallurgic factory, decided to rebuke Marat Afanasieu, activist of United Civil Party, and deprive him of the wage bonus for July because of the information he had received from Mr. Tormanau, head of the repairs board and Mr. Shparun, vice-head of the group. They accused Afanasieu in playing computer games at work.
The officials of Hantsavichy District Executive Committee refused to tell Hantsavitski Chas newspaper correspondent Iryna Damaratskaia what families have the right to receive financial support for preparing their children to school. She asked this question to Ala Stralchenia, chair of the committee’s financial department on the eve of the new curriculum year, who answered she couldn’t explain anything. However, according to the newspaper’s information, the finances for this support were issued from the district budget.
In the beginning of September the International Labor Organization planned to send to Minsk a special commission of inquiry. However, the visit of specialists from Brussels is delayed. Mikalai Kannakh, vice-chair of the Congress of Democratic Trade Unions, informed RFE/RL that the reason for the delay is the request of Belarusian authorities, who stated they weren’t ready to work with experts according to the schedule that has been proposed by ILO this spring. The organization gave the authorities 14 months to correct the found violations in implementation of the working law and the rules for the activity of independent trade unions. Now the time has come to check the results.
The administration of Ivatsevichy colony refused to transfer Valery Levaneuski, leader of the strike committee of vendors, to a colony settlement with corrective labour. Radio Svaboda was informed about the denial by his son Uladzimir Levaneuski, with a reference to a letter of his parents. “He has written that on September 3 he was refused commutation and transfer o a colony-settlement. The alleged reason is that he is a malicious violator of prison regime. Now he is going to challenge the verdict and the penalties against him in the court,” the son of the political prisoner informed.
