Belarusian CEC Already Knows Number of Candidates 16:10, 13/09/2005
As assumed by the Central Committee of the Republic of Belarus on electrons and referenda (CEC), the presidential elections in 2006 would cost the budget 35,238 bn Br, or 16,389 million USD. The BelaPAN was informed about that by the CEC secretary Mikalay Lazavik. As said by him, it is supposed that there would be 10 candidates at the ongoing elections.
As said by M.Lazavik, it is more than twice as much as in 2001. An average salary that has grown by 3.4 times since the last presidential elections, and a dollar exchange rate (1.6 times growth) were the basis for calculation.
Organizational costs, expenses for payment to the election committees members, for agitation materials of future candidates are included to the CEC’ estimate as well.
As M.Lazavik said, it is planned that there would be ten candidates at the elections. According to the law, each of them is to be given 2,300 basic units, which makes about USD 30,000. As we have informed, in 2001 the CEC planned expenses for 10 candidates, but there were only four of them.
