Belarusian Foreign Ministry Oppose UN Ruled by Representatives of Western States 13:20, 14/09/2005
Belarus advocates changes in the UN Security Council and “increase of authority and legitimacy of decisions made by that structure”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told to a BELTA correspondent.
As the Foreign Ministry underlined, at the General Assembly session Belarus is ready to support the draft resolution aimed at restoration of the General Assembly role as the UN highest representative body, having a right to on all questions of the Organization’s activities, including international peace and security preservation, post-conflict restoration, disarmament, war on terrorism. The official Minsk also supports propositions on abolition of the Trust Council, “a body that has fulfilled its historical mission”, and from the UN Statute “archaic reference to “antagonistic states”.
The Belarusian side finds it necessary to criticize a practice of appointing representatives of western states on leading positions in the structures of the UN system, heads and experts of research groups and projects under UN aegis without consultations with other states, the Foreign Ministry representative added.
