Today, on September 15 from 12.30 to 14.00 a meeting of the elders of the church “New Life” and the deputy minister of Internal Affairs, chief of police and public security, general Viktar Filistovich took place.
On September 14 pastor of the church “New Life” Vyachaslau Hancharenka was summoned to Internal Affairs department of the Minsk City Council. He was accompanied by administrator of the church Vasil Yurevich and a lawyer Syarhei Lukanin. Representatives of the church were met by deputy head of the Internal Affairs department of the Minsk executive Committee police colonel Anatol Najdzenka, head of Internal Affairs department colonel Yauheni Paludzen, deputy head of police department of Maskouski district of Minsk lieutenant colonel Vasil Lizun, an officer of crime prevention department of Maskouski district of Minsk senior lieutenant Tatsyana Dikan, and an officer of the religions and nationalities’ affairs department of Minsk Executive committee Alena Radchanka, and a member of the commission on religious affairs of Minsk Executive Committee Yury Vershyn. In a indecorous and tactless way A.Najdzenka stated that if on September 15 believers of his church would gather in front of the building of the Minsk City Executive Committee, Vasil Yurevich and Syarhei Lukanin would be apprehended by police. His speech was accompanied by personal insults and threats, the press-service of the church “New Life” informs.
The political Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe has requested the former PACE President Lord Russell-Johnston to organize a meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani delegations during the next October session, reported AzerTAj Paris-based correspondent.
On September 14, the Permanent Council of Democratic Forces, which unites the main democratic parties in Belarus, refused to give a quote for former rector of the Belarusian State University Alyaksandr Kazulin and his newly-created party, so that they could participate in the Congress of democratic Forces which is to nominate a presidential candidate. Speaking at the consultations, first deputy chairman of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Narodnaya Hramada) Alyaksandr Arestovich told that the party of Mr.Kazulin is a part of the project of the authorities, which aim is to neutralize the leader of the BSDP (NH) and a candidate of the European coalition, Mikola Statkevich, and a split of the broad democratic movement. All the parties-members of the European coalition share this position. None of the organizations of the Permanent Council of Democratic Forces has supported affording a quota, the press service of the BSDP (NH) informs.

Paviel Sieviaryniets, who has been sentenced to two years of personal restraint for alleged organization of the mass riot after the parliamentary election of 17 October 2004, spends his term in the village of Malaia Sitna, on the border with Russia. In the end of August he applied to Aliaksandr Damuts, head of the open colony, with the request to allow him visiting a church at least once a week. Mr. Damuts formally allowed it to him, but due to the imposed restrictions it remains practically impossible.
Christian of the Full Gospel Union church New Life are going to assemble at the building of the Minsk City Executive Council on Thursday, September 15 at 4 pm local time. They are planning to come as whole families, with their wives and children. The church has notified the Mayor Michael Pavlov about its visit.
Alies Kamliuk, one of the architects of the monument to Frantsysk Skaryna (the pioneer of printing in Belarus) states his copyright is violated. The reason is that nobody asked for his agreement to installation of the monument in front of the new building of the National Library, situated at the outskirts of Minsk. To Kamliuk’s mind, the best place the monument could be installed is near the National Academy of Sciences that is not far from the city center.
On September 14 activists of Belarusian dispora have held a protest timed to the visit of Alyaksandr Lukashenka to the UN session. The action started at the 5th Avenue by the New York public library. Representatives of the diaspora came to the UN headquarters carrying white-red-white flags. They were holding placards and slogans; “We want free, independent, democratic Belarus!”, “Stop Lukashenka’s dictatorship!”
