Alyaksandr Lukashenka and his Iraqi counterpart, Jalal Talabani, spoke for resuming war-interrupted cooperation between the two countries at their meeting in New York on 15 September, the press office of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry reported.
The two leaders, who were staying in New York to attend the 2005 World Summit, agreed on the need to restore the historically established trade and economic ties and full-scale cooperation in other areas of bilateral relations, the press office said.
Lukashenka and Talabani reportedly discussed steps towards the implementation of earlier agreements, with the Belarusian leader expressing readiness to propose specific cooperation projects.
Lukashenka also had a meeting with the new president of Iran, Mahmud Ahmadinezhad, during which the sides "confirmed the importance of the development of bilateral cooperation in the interests of the peoples of the two countries and for the cause of regional stability," the press office said.
Lukashenka reportedly spoke for taking a review of earlier agreements and identifying priority joint projects. The heads of state tasked the foreign ministers with preparing the agenda of the presidents` future meeting.
