Rally In Support of Belarusian Disappeared Oppositionists In Germany
15:17, 22/09/2005

The manes of Yury Zakharanka, Viktar Hanchar, Anatol Krasouski and Dzitry Zavadski are recalled today in D?sseldorf. At 8 p.m. local time an international rally “Abducted people - a crime against mankind” starts there.

As radio Svaboda informs, the main reports and discussions of the event are dedicated to politically motivated disappearances in Belarus and Chechnya. The organizers of the event are German Foundation “World”, an initiative “Mothers for peace” and other non-governmental organizations. Human rights watchdogs, politicians, representatives of civil society of Germany, Belarus and Chechnya are among the participants.

Barbara Gladysz from the initiative “Mothers for peace” from Cologne, who many times met with relatives and friends of the disappeared in Belarus and in Germany, is sure that the perpetrators of these crimes are so-called “state actors”, or those who carry out a state order. That is why these people stay at large. As for the victims, they are mostly political dissenters, which were bound to be annihilated by the system, both physically and socially, and without traces.

According to Barbara Gladysz, families of the disappeared, all those who are carrying out independent investigation, are often victims in these appalling stories as well. The regime persecutes them and terrorize morally.
