After the new amendments to the law “On Political Parties” has entered into legal force, the Justice Ministry is going to take measures of influence to the parties that are “working outside legal framework”, Justice Minister of Belarus Viktar Halavanau said at the press conference in Minsk.
Among these measures the minister called suspension of the political parties’ activities for a term up to half a year. It will be possible since October 28 when the new law is to come into force. As said by the minister, the issue concerns the parties which are systematically neglect requirements of the legislation and do not react to the pretensions of the Justice Ministry. However Halavanau had not explained what parties are to be reprimanded, adding that the Justice Ministry has “certain results of the work”.
The new sanction is to be used exclusively in a judicial procedure, the minister added. As we have informed, the redrafted law envisages a number of additional restrictions concerning the activities of political parties. In particular, it is not allowed to be a member of more than one party at the same time; membership of legal entities in political parties is banned as well. The law also widens the list of restrictions on the parties’ financing. The parties cannot receive money and property from foreign states and organizations, foreign citizens and stateless persons, anonymous benefactor, underage citizens of Belarus, religious organizations and legal entities registered less than a year before making a donation.
Besides, every year before March 1 all the parties are to provide annual activity reports to the Justice Ministry, the BelaPAN informs.
