KGB: there is no evidence that explosion in Vitebsk is terror attack 11:50, 26/09/2005
The examination of the scene of accident as well as other information allows to regard the explosion in Vitebsk as hooliganism. There is no evidence of terror activity, deputy chief of information and public relations of the KGB of Belarus Valeriy Nadtochayev said.
According to him, the works on the site of the blast involve operational teams of the oblast procuracy, KGB and interior ministry’ departments for Vitebsk oblast, emergencies ministry, sapper services. The prosecutor’s office of Vitebsk oblast opened a criminal action under Art. 14-2, 139 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. Investigation is underway involving officials of the public prosecutor’s office, interior ministry and KGB.
According to the latest information, the blast outside the cafe Eridan in Vitebsk left about 40 people injured (mainly young people under 20). Thirty-six of them needed hospital treatment.
