Printing House and State Delivery Enterprise Cancel Agreements With “Narodnaya Volya” :: Charter'97 :: News

Printing house “Krasnaya zvezda”, where the newspaper “Narodnaya Volya” is published, and Minskgorsajuspdruk (state delivery enterprise) cancel agreements with the newspaper for its distribution and printing. The BelaPAN was told about that by the editor-in-chief Iosif Syaredzich. As said by him, on September 28 the newspaper transferred more than 70 mln rubles from the sum of the fine of 100 mln rubles. The newspaper is to pay this sum to the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Syarhei Hajdukevich as a compensation for moral damage by one of the articles.

On September 20-21 officers of the court distrained the newspaper property. As a result, alienation of property under execution is prohibited; a big lot of paper is arrested, the operating account of the “Narodnaya Volya” is blocked until the full transfer of the compensation sum.

As I.Syaredzich informed, in half an hour after the money transfer, the editorial office received faxes from the printing house and Minskgorsajuspdruk that they stop cooperation with the newspaper since October 1.

“Tomorrow another address with a demand to stop unlawfulness is to be published in our newspaper, as cancellation of the contracts for publishing and distribution have been made on far-fetched reasons,” I.Syaredzich told to the BelaPAN.

The editor-in-chief of the “Narodnaya Volya” told that its readers have actively supported the newspaper. “The money transferred by us, have been found thanks to a extraordinary support of our leaders,” he said.

At the same time, the editor-in-chief noted that the appeal to suspend the verdict of the court of Lenin district of Minsk, to remove an attachment from the paper, without which the newspaper cannot be printed, and to release the blocked bank account, that had been sent to the chairman of the Supreme Court of Belarus, Valyantsin Sukala, has not been answered yet.

Today the “Narodnaya Volya” is the only daily independent socio-political newspaper in Belarus.
