Let’s Support Belarusian Political Prisoner Mikhail Marynich! 15:23, 30/09/2005
An influential European magazine the “European Voice” included the Belarusian political prisoner, former Minister and Ambassador Mikhail Marynich (Marinich) into the list of persons who had exerted a great influence on the European politics in the year 2005. Mikhail Marynich is nominated as a “Non-EU Citizen of the Year”, together with Viktor Yushchenko, President of Ukraine, Leyla Zana, Turkey’s Kurdish activist, Ariel Sharon, Prime Minister of Israel, John Garang, Vice-President of Sudan.
The magazine “European Voice” is published by the “Economist” group. It is a daily edition covering activities of the European Union. It was founded in 1995. “European Voice” is considered the most informatory and reliable source of information on the EU.
Every year the council of the magazine’s editors defines 50 personalities whose influence on the European politics was the greatest. Then voting among the readers is held. They are to define the best personalities in the following nominations: Commissioner of the Year, MEP of the Year, Statesman of the Year, Diplomat of the Year, Campaigner of the Year, Journalist of the Year, European of the Year, and so on.
In November the award-giving ceremony is held. Last year Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili won in the nomination Non-EU Citizen of the Year.
