Stanislau Shushkevich to Stand Trial

On October 11 in Brest the trial over the chairman of the United Civil Party (UCP) Anatol Lyabedzka and the chairman of the Belarusian Social Democratic Hramada Stanislau Shushkevich. The politicians are to be put on trial for organizing a meeting on nomination of delegates to the Congress of Democratic Forces on July 9 in the settlement of Damachova, Brest region.

Judgment to Mikita Sasim – Three Days of Arrest

The court of Tsentralny district of Minsk sentenced the coordinator of Zubr movement Mikita Sasim to three days of imprisonment. The Zubr coordinator was arrested in Minsk on October 7 for handing out leaflets with the call to participate in the Day of Solidarity with victims of the regime on October 16. Since that time he was kept in a remand prison of Interior Affairs Department of Minsk city executive committee. Today in the Tsentralny Court of Minsk cooked-up charges were nailed on Mikita Sasim. The oppositionist allegedly used indecent language in a public place. Judge Alyaksei Bychko found Mikita Sasim guilty of violation of the Article 156 of Administrative Code (petty hooliganism).

Pavel Marynich: “We Need Solidarity”

“Today we need solidarity. The events of recent days oblige us to unite. It has become evident by the example of the arrest of Zubr coordinator, Mikita Sasim, and by the example of today’s trial of Anatol Lyabedzka. The number of political prisoners is to grow, and the regime is to step up repressions. The Belarusian society needs coming together, and I call upon everybody to take part in the Day of Solidarity on October 16,” said the son of the political prisoner Mikhail Marynich, a coordinator of the civil initiative “Freedom to political prisoners”, a member of the Council of Civil Initiatives ”Free Belarus” Pavel Marynich.

On October 11 in Brest a trial of the chairman of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka starts. The process have been served on right after the Congress of Democratic Forces. Anatol Lyabedzka is accused of organizing a meeting for nomination of delegates for the Congress in the settlement of Damachova, Brest region. The upcoming proceedings obviously contradict the statement of Alyaksandr Lukashenka, according to which the authorities have not been hindering preparation of the forum in any way.

Police Holds Back Information About Arrest of Zubr Coordinator

Police continues to hold back the information about the arrest of the Zubr movement coordinator Mikita Sasim (Nikita Sasim). Sasim was detained on Friday, October 7. The reason and circumstances of his arrest are still unknown. Mikita Sasim has spent two days in the special remand prison of Internal Affairs department of Minsk city executive committee in Akrestsyn Street. Workers of the remand prison refused to pass him warm clothes and food.

This year the state TV, radio stations and offices of telephone operators received thousands of letters with demands to use Belarusian language.

Independent Newspaper Refused Radio Advertisement

Hantsavichy district center of electronic communications refused to accept an ad concerning subscription campaign from the independent newspaper Hantsavitski Chas. According to Mr. Rylka, chair of the center, “it is impossible to execute the request because of a large number of congratulation applications and the necessity to place the center’s own information during the specified time”.

Zubr Coordinator Mikita Sasim Arrested

One of coordinators of the Zubr movement Mikita Sasim is arrested in Minsk. On Friday late at night Sasim sent a message from his mobile phone, that he had been taken to a police department of Tsentralny district of Minsk. Since that time there is no connection with him. Police officers refuse to give any information about him.
