Germany pledges aid to university banished from Belarus 15:57, 20/10/2005
The German federal government has pledged EUR 50,000 for the European Humanities University (EHU), a private institution established in 1992 and closed by Belarusian authorities in July 2004.
The EHU reopened in Vilnius on October 7. It offers Belarusian students "modern European education" and is set to return to Minsk in the future, according to the press office of the German foreign ministry.
"The Vilnius-based university is an important contribution to the Belarus democratization process," the press office added.
Last year, the German government earmarked EUR125,000 for training 24 former fifth-year EHU students at Viadrina University.
