Scout Festival In Hrodna Banned
11:27, 22/11/2005

Belarusian authorities prohibited the local Poles to organize a festival of Harcerstwo (a Polish scout organization – Polish Scouting and Guiding Association, or Zwiazek Harcerstwa Polskiego). The authorities also informed that they are going to make an inspection of the educational organization “Polska Macierz Szkolna”.

The Festival was to take place in Polish Consulate in Hrodna. An activist of the Union of Poles in Belarus Andrzej Poczobutt told to the Polish Radio that children and their parents had been intimidated, for instance to lose their job. Mr. Poczobutt’s opinion is that in this way Minsk regime is trying to impose control over all organizations in Polish community. To his mind, the authorities have started a crackdown on Polish community in Belarus in general. Until that moment the repressions mostly concerned the members of the Union of Poles in Belarus.
