Alyaksandr Bukhvostau: “Workers’ Awareness is Growing”
16:39, 25/11/2005

“I can only welcome protests of the workers of Minsk Motorcycle and Bicycle Plant. At last Belarusian workers’ awareness is awaking,” told the leader of the Labour Party Alyaksandr Bukhvostau, commenting on the protest action of Minsk Motorcycle and Bicycle Plant to the Charter’97.

A. Bukhvostau believes that the protest by the workers was caused by the economical policy of Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s regime. Earlier, Bukhvostau said, Minsk Motorcycle and Bicycle Plant was an enterprise with collective ownership, later it was reincorporated as a joint-stock company. However, after having lost its trade markets, the enterprise asked state support. The state promised to help, the leader of the Labour Party says, but demanded controlling block of stock in return. “As a result, the plant remained without support, without working assets, wages are not paid,” Bukhvostau says.

As said by him, there is nobody to defend the rights of the workers. “The Federation of trade unions of Belarus is Lukashenka’s service for suppression of the workers,” A.Bukhvostau said.
