Former minister and diplomat Mikhail Marynich expressed gratitude to the people who take part in the Day of Belarusian Solidarity. As said by him, it is really a great support for political prisoners and those who fight for freedom and democracy in Belarus. The Charter’97 press center was told about that by the son of Mikhail Marynich, the leader of the civil initiative “Freedom to Political Prisoners” Pavel Marynich, who had a meeting with his father in Minsk colony on November 28.

Ukrainian “Pora” Proposes Stepping Up International Pressure On Lukashenka’s Regime

On November 28 the civil party “Pora” expressed deep concern over the fact that the illegitimate parliament of Belarus adopted amendments to the Criminal Code and the Code of Penal Procedure, which envisages criminal liability for taking part in the work of public associations and political parties. “Pora” believes that the policy of appeasement and the “culture of relations”, about which they talk in Ukraine, would not work with the dictator, which understands only the language of power and international pressure, and proposes to increase international pressure on Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s regime to the extent of introduction of international embargo.

Procurator’s Office Checks Articles Published in the Newspaper Borisovskiye novosti

The procurator’s office of Barysau is to give a “legal evaluation” of several articles published in the newspaper Borisovskiye novosti (issues 29-31 of 2005) and “take an appropriate decision regarding procurator’s reaction”. An appropriate instruction arrived from the procurator`s office of Minsk Oblast, which had in turn received a commission from the Procurator`s Office of Belarus (the civil rights and liberties department). A political prisoner, the leader of the All-nation Strike Committee of Vendors Valery Levaneuski continues hunger strike in Ivatsevichy colony for 16th day. Lawyer Alyaksandr Byarylau visited Levaneuski on November 28. “The political prisoner continues hunger strike and believes that the administration of the colony exerts pressure on him. His demands are not listened to, all his personal belongings were seized, together with the documents on his criminal case,” the lawyer said to the Radio Svaboda.
